Toyota Recall: Tundra pickups could have serious problems

Last month, Toyota announced that millions of their products, including Lexus, that owners should take action and tear out the driver’s side floor mat to prevent possible jamming of the accelerator.

The most recent recall involves a little over 100,000 (2000 thru 2003) Toyota Tundra pickup trucks. The company advises owners to remove the spare tire mounted underneath the truck, and store it in the truck’s bed until a solution is worked out to keep the tire from falling out and becoming a potential hazard. The company found that salt can have a negative effect on the tire mount. In the same advisory,Toyota warns that the salt corrosion can also affect brake lines and lead to possible brake failure.

Toyota began making notice to customers in December 2008, to bring their trucks in to dealers service departments for possible replacements of the rear-frame cross member, the part which holds the spare tire, as well as the rear brake lines.

Toyota owners in the following states could be affected: New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Kentucky, New Jersey and the District of Columbia.
