The Lenovo Group, a leading maker of computers said this week that it will join the field of companies vying to produce products that connect mobile phones with PCs by taking back the mobile phone division that it sold off in 2008.
Lenovo ranks as the number four producer in the PC market. They sold their mobile phone division to concentrate on making computers, but realized that the two fields are merging into one which brings a significant opportunity for them.
Lenovo, based in Beijing as well as North Carolina, announced that it shelled out $200 million in cash and stock to buy back their mobile phone division from a group of investors from Hong Kong.
Lenovo has been hit hard by the global recession and has shown a decline in sales. However the company has reported profits this quarter (ending Sept. 30) have doubled from last year at this time, to about $53 million dollars.
