The King of Pop may already be dead but the estate of Michael Jackson received a record-breaking deal in the history of music: a $200 million contract with Sony Music Entertainment that will include 10 projects for seven years.

According to an unnamed source, the guaranteed contract which will be good until 2017 could even be as much as $250 million if some specific conditions are met. One of the projects will be an album featuring never-before-released recordings of Jackson set to come out in November.

The person further said that the official announcement will be made on Tuesday.

Other projects may include videos compiled in one DVD and a re-release of Jackson’s fifth studio album “Off the Wall” which was first released in 1979. According to people close to the pop star, he was planning to re-issue the album before his sudden death.

A part of the contract was the album that accompanied the release of “This Is It”, the film which documented the concert rehearsals of Jackson in London days before his death.

Since Jackson’s death in June 2009, he has already sold nearly 31 million albums, two-thirds of which were sold outside the U.S.

According to John Branca, one of the administrators of the Jackson estate, this new contract with Sony is only a testament of the singer’s lasting legacy breaking records after records in the music industry aven long after his death.

Rob Stringer, chairman of Columbia Epic Label Group, a subsidiary of Sony Music, said that the company is determined to keep Michael Jackson’s legacy.

The sudden death of Corey Haim at the age of 38 may be linked to an underground trade of prescription drugs – a link that prosecutors in California are investigating.

The office of Attorney General Jerry Brown released a statement that said Haim’s name was found while they were looking into fake prescriptions from a supplier in San Diego.

The statement was issued on Friday, two days after Haim died in a hospital in Los Angeles. The statement further asserts that Haim’s tragic death was just one of many others that are part of the growing problem in abuse of prescription drugs.

There is no word from the office of the coroner as to the exact cause of the actor’s death. However, the star of films such as “Lucas” and “Lost Boys” had a long history of drug abuse.

According to the office of the attorney general, the drug ring they are investigating specializes in acquiring prescription forms from suppliers using stolen identities of doctors.

The ring then targets prescription drug abusers or those that get payment by filling prescriptions as its customers, the statement further said.

A public memorial for Haim is set to take place in Los Angeles, but he is expected to be buried in Canada.

Right before his death, Michael Jackson had 22 pieces of custom-made furniture commissioned for his home in London. Now, they are going to be up for action.

Among the furniture set to be offered are a pair of velvet armchairs with gold eagles embroidered in it, a leopard-print chair trimmed with ostrich feathers and a nine-seat gilded red velvet sofa, Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions said Friday.

Jackson wanted to use the furniture while he was in London for his “This Is It” concert.

Fans will be able to see a glimpse of what Jackson’s London house looked like when a re-creation will be displayed at the Planet Hollywood casino in Las Vegas from June 14 to June 25. The auction will happen after that.

According to Julien, some of the proceeds from the auction will go to two charities: MusiCares, which helps struggling musicians with health care and other services, and Joshua’s Heart, which campaigns for the end of world hunger.

After a messy late-night battle at NBC, Jay Leno is now on a head-to-head battle with arch-nemesis David Letterman to once again take the ratings crown.

Leno came back to host “The Tonight Show” last week after Conan O’Brien left the program due to schedule dispute. It was also Leno’s return from a failed primetime venture.

Upon the return of the 59-year-old host, ratings went up to an average of 5.6 million viewers on his first week. It paled Letterman’s 3.7 million viewers that week.

His comeback was definitely advantageous for him and he cashed in on that. He also had a strong lineup of guests that included Olympic medallists and Sarah Palin.

During his second week, the competition got a little closer. During the first four nights of this week, Leno averaged 4.3 million viewers while Letterman has 4 million.

Just before O’Brien took over last year, Jay Leno was averaging a million and a half more than Letterman. However, David Letterman ruled the ratings when he was up against Conan O’Brien.

Corey Haim, a former teen star that shot to fame in the 1980s, died in Los Angeles of what is alleged to be an overdose of prescription drugs. He was only 38 years old.

Haim, who was born in Canada was known for his multiple collaborations with Corey Feldman, was pronounced dead Wednesday at the Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center.

According to Sergeant Frank Albarren of the North Hollywood Station of the Los Angeles Police Department, the actor’s death was apparently caused by an overdose of an unknown medication.

Haim was suffering from flu-like symptoms, assistant chief of the coroner’s office Ed Winter said. Her mother, who was living with him, was said to have found him distressed and called paramedics who rushed him to the hospital early in the morning hours.

Winter added that coroners found prescription drugs in Haim’s apartment but nothing that was illegal.

His first big break was the 1986 film “Lucas” where he received the main role and was alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder. His biggest hit, however, came with “Lost Boys” where he starred with Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland and Feldman who would later star again with him in “License to Drive.”

Haim and Feldman were dubbed as “The Two Coreys” and they tried to make a comeback in 2006 with a reality television series named after their tandem’s moniker.

The actor suffered from drug abuse during the early years of his career which he talked openly while promoting his reality show. He said he was already clean and sober at that time.

The family of Farrah Fawcett was reportedly saddened by the exclusion of the actress in the In Memoriam segment of the Oscars, but the executive director of the Academy said Tuesday because Fawcett was better known for her work on television.

Bruce Davis, executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said that it was not an easy decision for the committee in charge of the segment to have Fawcett omitted and that he was not surprised that her family and fans were upset.

In a statement released Tuesday, the publicist of Fawcett’s family said that they were “bereft with this exclusion of such an international icon who inspired so many for so many reasons.”

Davis and the members of the committee made the final decision of omitting Fawcett as well as another actor Gene Barry from the list of people to pay tribute to because they thought the late actors have done more work on television and they would be appropriately honored during the Emmy Awards.

The executive director added that they had to give way for a large number of screenwriters who died this year and they were only given a short time for the segment.

Davis was asked why Michael Jackson was included in the tribute when the actors were not. He answered that Jackson recently appeared in “This Is It”, a highly successful theatrical film. Fawcett and Jackson died on the same day.

Everyone is expecting Sandra Bullock to win the Best Actress trophy on Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony, but she was named the worst actress right on the eve of the Oscars.

The Golden Raspberry Awards, or shortly known as the Razzies, gave the Worst Actress trophy to Sandra Bullock for her performance in the critically panned movie “All About Steve”.

Bullock has been a good sport about it. She has even joked about it while getting attention for her critically acclaimed performance in “The Blind Side”.

The Razzies was established in 1981 to name the worst in film and aims to poke fun on the Oscars as it is notably held on the same weekend as the Academy Awards.

If Bullock will indeed be named the best actress, she will be the first one to be named best and worst actress on the same year – on the same weekend.

The 45-year-old Bullock along with her on-screen love interest in “All About Steve” Bradley Cooper shared the award for Worst Screen Couple.

Other actors “dishonored” were the Jonas Brothers as Worst Actors for “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience,” Billy Ray Cyrus as Worst Supporting Actor for “Hannah Montana: The Movie” and Sienna Miller as Worst Supporting Actress for “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.”

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” was named the Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay of 2009 and its director Michael Bay was named as Worst Director. “Land of the Lost” was chosen as the Worst Prequel, remake, Rip-off or Sequel.

This year’s Razzies also named the worst actor, worst actress and worst picture of the decade. Eddie Murphy, Paris Hilton and Battlefield Earth were given the trophies, respectively.
