Thriller is probably the greatest song that was ever produced. Correspondingly, the Thriller music video was hailed the most successful music video ever by the Guinness Book of World Records with 9 million units sold. This video was what propelled Michael Jackson to stardom and being called the greatest recording artist of all time.
The music video, which was released in 1983, will be inducted today for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. It will now be among the collection of movies, sound, and television recordings. It will mark the first time a music video will enter such honor ever since the registry was conceived in 1989. It currently has 525 recordings in its collection. It is just one of the 25 films to be inducted today. Another popular film that will enter the list is the The Muppet Movie release in 1979.
The registry coordinators said that the video has tried to enter the collection in the past, but to no success. This time will be the most perfect moment as it will honor Michael Jackson’s death and legacy.
Thriller is still the subject of some lawsuits pertaining to arguments over its profits.
