US President Barack Obama will be visiting Las Vegas starting Thursday that will cause a temporary closures in air space for sightseeing businesses.
Operators of air tours are already complaining that these closures can make them lose thousands if not millions of dollars in revenue.
Nigel Turner, owner of Heli USA Airways, said that the ban this time is much stringent than last May when Obama landed on the McCarran International Airport and during visits of former President George W. Bush.
According to Turner an estimated $500,000 will be lost in Thursday’s visit.
Ian Gregor, spokesman for the FAA, said that there was indeed a difference in this week’s visit but he did not have any knowledge on the reason why.
The temporary closure will be implemented from 5:45 p.m. on Thursday to 1:30 p.m. on Friday. This means that only commercial airlines, government aircraft and air ambulance can fly within 12 miles of McCarran. Air tours are only allowed outside a 30-mile radius.
