Air traffic controllers in Paris, France will be having a strike beginning Tuesday and would last for another three days. This means that hundreds of flights will be cancelled in the capital’s two major airports, the French aviation authority said.
Based on the order of the DGAC aviation authority, airlines will be cancelling 25 percent of flights at Charles de Gaulle and 50 percent of flights at the Orly Airport.
The national carrier Air France said that only domestic and European flights will be affected by the strike. Other international flights will continue their operations.
According to the Union of French Airports, other airports in non-capital cities such as Biarritz, Chambery, Grenoble, La Rochelle and Pau will also close down during the strike.
Five unions of air traffic controllers will be participating in the strike. They are protesting the plans to combine air traffic control in all EU members which could mean job losses as well as postponement of of benefits for government employees.
A similar strike was held last month causing the cancellation of 15 percent of the flights in Charles de Gaulle and 50 percent in Orly.
Charles de Gaulle typically accommodates 1,000 flights daily while Orly has around 300 flights everyday.
