2. HearPlanet (Cost: $5)

This is an audio travel guide. It allows you to look for local landmarks and famous well-known locations and the it will broadcast a commentary on those particular locations or sites. Most of the information comes from Wikipedia, and you have the choice to either read the information or hear it in audio format. Some of the notable locales even feature human voice commentaries, while others of a more obscure nature have only text analyzing robotic-style voices. This app makes you feel as if you have a well-traveled friend by your side wherever you go.

3. AutoPilot (It’s Free!)

Recently unveiled from USA Today comes this handy app which has a number of flight-tracking features, as well as travel stories that are specific to many flight destinations.
